We watched a few older home videos last night. We got to see Grandpa Tom (my Daddy) and Grandma "Bong" (my Grandma, my Mom's Mom) who are both now deceased. They both passed within a week of each other in 2003 during the holiday season. My Grandma had a wealth of medical problems ailing her, including her age being a factor against her, and ultimately passed in the Hospital with her kidneys failing her. My Daddy had lung cancer that spread and he passed in a Hospice knowing his fate.
My husband later asked me if it was hard to see them on video. Actually, I explained to him, it was kind of nice, like they are still here or something. It's nice to have those memories. I guess maybe it's different when you have time to prepare yourself that you're probably going to lose that person before they pass? My Daddy was over 60 years old, and my Grandma over 80, I think. My husband's Daddy died ripely in his early 30's in a sudden car accident when my husband was barely becoming a teenager. No one saw that coming!
Either way, it felt good to give my little girl some memories of her Grandma and Grandpa that she met when she was only a newborn and can only remember through pictures and videos.
She really enjoyed seeing me when I was a little girl too. She was truly fascinated!
