Overnight Dexamethasone

My Endocrinologist called me this afternoon. She wants to refer me to an Ophthalmologist, and also a Neurosurgeon, of course. She said that she will call me tomorrow with at least one referral more than likely, and that she should have the rest of my labs back by then. We're waiting still on the Cortisol levels from the Overnight Dexamethasone Suppression Test.

Of the labs she got back so far, here is what she had to say:
My ACTH levels are "really high" which is pretty expressive seeing as how the Dexamethasone suppresses those levels. She is expecting the Cortisol to come back with equal intensity.

I didn't ask her for the actual #s. Not that they would be accurate because they were suppressed, they will be lower than they usually are. But I think when I talk to her tomorrow I will ask her for the exact #s and reference intervals.

Anyways, my Growth Hormone and Thyroid came back "fine". So basically she said it looks as though at the moment the only hormone being affecting by tumor is the Cortisol/ACTH thing. Although it sucks to have any of this going on at all, at least it's only one hormonal thing, if the rest of the results show that. I thought certainly there was something wrong with my kidneys with all the back pain I've been having, but she said from the tests they look okay. Hmm.

I asked about my hernia and she said it is a small midline abdominal ventral hernia. She doesn't recommend surgery, at least not yet.

As for my upcoming brain surgery:

The only way to achieve long term cure of Cushing's disease is by transsphenoidal removal of the adenoma. Long-term remission or "cure rates" are 50-55% for macroadenomas and adenomas with suprasellar or cavernous sinus invasion.
