It's a Girl

Our new puppy, Maya.
She's a Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix, a ShiChi.

These are pictures of Maya's momma.

Maya's momma's owner was going to take her and her siblings to the shelter. But a friend of a friend said if they go to the shelter as this age (3-4 weeks), they will surely die. I was asked to foster or adopt at least one. I fell in love with Maya right away. My only fear is that if Sissy (the last little girl we tried to rescue) had Distemper and if our home is contaminated or not. This puppy has had no vaccines, no more mother's milk, and is too young to get vaccines. Next month she can probably get her fist round of shots. So for now she's in a little kennel crate and allowed on a puppy pad or to be held. She's not allowed on my carpet until she's been vaccinated, probably more than once. I don't want to risk her getting whatever Sissy might have died from. We've been syringe feeding her around the clock, like a newborn baby. She's on a special puppy formula (not cheap!), baby rice cereal, and in a day or two we will move on to see if she can eat baby chicken dinner food in addition to her other foods. She's tolerating the food well by means of not throwing it up, her plumbing works, and her personality seems intelligent and sweet. Her name is Maya, pronounced "Mya". Please pray for her that this rescue is a success and she is a member of our family for many years to come!
