Big S is finishing up 2nd grade now and has a required project to build a 3D insect. Her assignment was a monarch butterfly. Parents are "encouraged" to help. It was no easy project, that's for sure. We did the best we could, although I feel like it was my homework instead of hers. Seneca took pictures while we were working and then I took pictures when the project was complete. The assignment required that the insect show 6 legs, antennae, eyes, proboscis, wings, head, thorax, and abdomen. We used a pine cone for the abdomen, part of a papier mache egg for the thorax, and half of a plastic egg for the head. the eyes and antennae tips are mini poms, we molded the wings out of orange clay and baked it then painted it. We used the glue gun to glue everything together. I forget what the stuff we used for the legs are called.
