Here I am 22 weeks into my pregnancy and no prenatal care. I've been in the "process" of applying for Medicaid now since JULY!! I called in early August to see how my application was coming along and I was told it was just "accepted" on July 31st and is in "process" now. A few days later I received a request in the mail from them. They wanted a hundred thousand documents to verify everything. Fine. The deadline? August 18th. Fine. We got everything they asked for and turned it all in on August 17th in person. Then we wait and wait and wait. I called again later in August to check on the status of my application. The "deadline" had passed and all the documents were in order, so what's the hold up, Yes or No, right? They tell me my application is being "processed" and that they have 45 days from July 31st to make their decision. Fine, but it's an easy Yes or No, they already told me the deadline was August 18th, so what more could be done past that? I called again in early September. Same response, "processing" and they have "45 days". Well now it's September 12th and on the 15th 45 days will have already passed. They have to know something by now. Maybe I'm not getting my mail or something? I call again today. They tell me that they DENIED my application on Monday September 10th because I didn't cooperate in providing the requested documents. She said I didn't provide proof of my income. I said I don't have any income, I am unemployed. She says, "Oh, I see that." Then she says "Well, it says that your pregnancy hasn't been verified." I told her that in fact it had and that was the reason that I applied to begin with and that the proof from the Doctor with my Due Date on it (as they require) was turned in with my original application. She said that she can send a message to the case worker to review the reasons I was denied and request that they call me to explain it.
Cute.
What irritates me more than anything is why they wait AN ENTIRE MONTH to tell me that my application was denied. If they were going to deny it after they thought they didn't receive all these things by the August 18th "DEADLINE" they gave me, why couldn't they have said something a month ago and I could have been to the Doctor by now!? This could have all been cleared up last month if they would have communicated with me.
