Good Times... Great Stories!

"Kids say the darnedest things."

And isn't that the truth! Here's a little story to support that statement.

Lil S came home from gym class with a flyer last week. It was an invitation to Fern Adair's Conservatory of the Arts Halloween Party on Saturday, November 1st from 7:00 PM until 1:00 AM (Nov. 2). The flyer said "Ages 6 (to 12... I think)". Lil S is only 5. Why would they give my 5 year old an invitation to a party that she wasn't invited to intend? The flyer said the cost was only $15.00 and RSVP must be made by Oct. 30th.

I was really busy on Oct. 30th (Sleeping and feeling like H*LL!), at just about the last minute I decided to try to RSVP for her to attend. I called in the RSVP and the age issue didn't come up, so I didn't bring it up.
Saturday night we arrive a little early, we didn't want to have to wait in line, we still had to sign her in and pay for her attendance. It appears Lil S is the first kid to arrive! We walked in and a few employees came out of the office and into the lobby. I follow to meet with someone at the counter to pay & sign in. Lil S saw another grown-up in the lobby and walked right up to her and said "I'm only 5, but I'm going to trick them that I'm 6 tonight!" She sounded so proud of herself. My husband and I were stumped that Lil S would say that to someone there, but were even more embarrassed when we looked behind us to see that she was telling this "secret" to Fern Adair herself!

Oh the joy of children!!

As I continued with conversation at the counter, John sat down with Lil S and whispered to her that Fern Adair is who she just told her "trick" to and that she was the owner and that she was the one that her "trick" would have been on. Lil S burst into tears, fearful that she had ruined her chance to party with them.

Luckily, as I had assumed, her age really didn't matter, I got her signed in and we waited until more kids showed up before we left her there until it was over.

We returned about 10 minutes early to pick her up and she came out mad at us, exclaiming demandingly "Why are you here!?" She didn't want to leave, she was afraid she might miss something.

It wasn't until today that she had her next gym class since the party and her gym teacher, Tara, was telling us what a "hit" she was at the party. She was saying that Lil S won the contest for best costume in her age group and everyone was buddying up with her because she was so much fun and so friendly! That was so nice and refreshing to hear! Lil S didn't tell us that she won the costume contest, she just told us that she was sad because she didn't enter the talent contest. I don't know what happened with that, I wasn't there and I didn't ask.

I'm going to try to get a picture of Lil S with Miss Tara next week if I remember. They seem to be such good buddies and I think it would be a nice treasure for Lil S. Perhaps I can make a collage of photos or a small scrapbook of gym friends and activities for her.
